Friday Film
Wendell Berry is one of my favorite writers and humans of all time. His ideas on food and technology (spoken way before it was cool) are profound while being simple and obvious. I plan to relish every minute of Poet and Prophet this weekend.

Nooks
I have about a hundred pages left of A Prayer for Owen Meany and just got a notification from the library that two books I've had on hold for months are available. Finally! I wish I could hide out in any of these nooks and read for days.

Slow Coffee
Last week's snow day gave us plenty of time to make a slow and methodical pot of coffee. Brett just got a kitchen scale and was excited to put it to use. We followed directions from the best of the best - Stumptown!
Measure 56 grams of coarse coffee grinds.
Empty the grinds into the french press.
Add boiling water to the grinds. Let sit for one minute.
After one minute has passed, stir the mixture. Let sit for another 3 minutes.
Put the top back on and plunge. Bottoms up!

Snowy Weekend in Bath County
This weekend has left me dreaming of someday owning a mountain house in Bath County. The town is quaint and unassuming while nestled among the big, gorgeous Allegheny Mountains. There's plenty of outdoor activities from fishing and hiking to biking and horseback riding. I'd like to think it's Virginia's best kept secret, but here I am blogging about it. I look forward to returning again soon!
PS: The ski pictures are from Snowshoe in West Virginia. It was my first time and definitely lived up to its reputation.

Snow Day
It's downright blustery out there and I'm enjoying every minute of it! Winter behaving like winter is fine by me.

Cranberried Lemon Yogurt Bread
Sundays are made for baking, don't you think? This little loaf should pair nicely with my morning coffee.
Ingredients:
2 c flour
2 t baking powder
3/4 t salt
1/2 t baking soda
1/4 c butter, softened
3/4 c sugar
1 c yogurt, plain
2 eggs
1/4 c lemon juice
zest from 1 lemon
1 1/2 c craisins
1. Preheat oven to 350. Grease a 9x5 inch pan.
2. Combine flour, baking powder, salt, and baking soda in large bowl. Set aside.
3. Use an electric mixer and beat the butter and sugar in a medium mixing bowl until light and fluffy. 4. Add yogurt, eggs, and lemon juice. Stir in craisins and lemon zest. Add to dry mixture.
4. Spread batter evenly in the pan. Bake for 50 minutes. Cool in pan for 10 minutes once cooked.

Friday Film
Ken Kesey has got to be one of the most fascinating human beings to have ever lived. I thoroughly enjoyed this hour long film documenting his life, work, and shenanigans.

Patagonia Swim Look Book
(c) Lauren Ross
Here's a look book I can get behind. It's quite different from a lot of the high fashion ones floating around the internet. Fleece, straw hats, and shorts are more my style. Who's ready for summer?

February 1
It was an icy but beautiful start to the month. After this hike, we (finally!) enjoyed warmer temperatures in the valley. Happy weekend and February to all!
