Mow the Lawn

I’ve grown suspicious of the inspirational. It’s overrated. I suspect duty — that half-forgotten word — may be more related to happiness than we think. Want to be happy? Mow the lawn. Collect the dead leaves. Paint the room. Do the dishes. Get a job. Labor until fatigue is in your very bones. Persist day after day. Be stoical. Never whine. Think less about the why of what you do than getting it done.

Nine

I've had those nine beautiful souls in my thoughts and prayers all week. Hate won't win.

New Music Tuesdays

I recently heard Widowspeak, for the first time, on the All Songs Considered podcast. I've enjoyed catching up on their older albums and look forward to hearing more from their upcoming one, All Yours.

Rest, Relaxation, and Reading

Lately, I've been in need of some extra R&R. That means more time for reading (and binge watching Orange is the New Black!) Thought I'd share my summer reading list for those looking for some book recommendations.

+ The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman (currently reading)
+ Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter
+ Euphoria by Lily King
+ Boys on the Boat by Daniel James Brown
+ East of Eden by John Steinbeck

Friday Film

Please, please take 20 minutes to watch this. While his work might be an extreme and incredible example, we should all be able to practice acts of compassion no matter how big or small.

Subway Book Review

I've always been curious about what people are reading. Whether in an airport, on a train, or at a coffee shop, I notice books and titles.

Happy to have stumbled across this Instagram account, (via A Cup of Jo) and will definitely follow along. The Subway Review is such a neat idea!

As If It Were Already Here

We spent this past weekend in Boston. My aunt recommended checking out Janet Echelman's public art exhibit and I'm so glad we did! It was amazing to stand underneath this giant web and watch the twine change colors in the dark. A must see if you're visiting this summer! Here's an incredible video of the actual installation.

New Template + Bookmarks

via here

I've been wanting to give MMITM a facelift for months and finally found a clean, classy (and super affordable!) template thanks to this designer on Etsy. And just in time for summer! I could not be happier with the look and service.

With that, here are a few bookmarks I've been meaning to share.

+ The best and worst times to drink coffee

+ Love the idea of Forest Mondays

+ The Fractal Moment

+ This song's been on repeat for weeks

+ Avocados? Yes please!

New Music Tuesdays

Beirut is back!

June

Didn't mean to let so much time pass. It's been a busy start to summer and it's not even officially here yet. We're gearing up for weddings, showers, and lots of beach time. (With house projects in between, of course!)

I have my summer reading list written out and a few goals to work towards during these hot, humid months. A big one is practicing mindfulness. After taking an online course the past 6 weeks, I am motivated and inspired to make this habit a daily one. More to come on that later, I hope.

Wishing you all a wonderful start to this new month!
