Every Morning

Every morning, when we wake up, we have twenty-four brand-new hours to live. What a precious gift! We have the capacity to live in a way that these twenty-four hours will bring peace, joy, and happiness to ourselves and others.

Peace is present right here and now, in ourselves and in everything we do and see. The question is whether or not we are in touch with it. We don't have to travel far away to enjoy the blue sky. We don't have to leave our city or even our neighborhood to enjoy the eyes of a beautiful child. Even the air we breathe can be a source of joy.

Cuppa

I'm not sure if it's from watching British shows or if it's my appreciation for ritual, but I especially enjoyed these tea photos from around the world. Who's ready for a cuppa?

Yet another video about Jackson. I couldn't help myself!

Snow Days

Charlottesville sure is pretty covered in a blanket of snow! Sounds like we're expected to get some more over the weekend. Fine by me as I have a new book to read, more trim/walls to paint, and season 4 of Call the Midwife to watch.

NYFW

I'm a huge fan of street style photography, especially during fashion week. Hats, scarves, winter coats, oh my.

PS: Happy snow day!

Time Spent

Let me be the one millionth person to tell you that time is a gift. It's offered to us every daggum day and lately, I've been guilty of majorly wasting it. I have technology (and maybe winter?) to thank for that.

This post, thankfully, made me question how I spend my days. Errr, looking at Instagram, watching Netflix, reading blogs. Bad, I know.

I like what she says about keeping time. Receiving time. I need to start thinking of it this way and cultivate better habits. Power down, live it in the moment, look people in the eye, have real conversations, be silent. Could do us all a whole lot of good.

I believe we are built to navigate the delicate balance of precisely what we have been given. I believe we have been created to walk the path we are on. I believe we are offered time – is it always enough? or is it just enough? – for today.

Daily Overview

via Google Earth

I could look at these pictures for hours. The Daily Overview lets you do just that!

Friday Film

A Path Appears is yet another amazing venture from husband and wife journalists, Sheryl WuDunn and Nicholas Kristoff. This series is sure to be heartbreaking but will certainly leave you hopeful and eager to make some kind of difference in this world.

I was first introduced to them via their book, Half the Sky, which aims to ignite change in ending oppression of women and girls worldwide. This also became a documentary that you can now stream on Netflix. Grab your box of tissues and have at it!

Waiting for the day when the spotlight shines on these kinds of people and issues instead of crappy books turned movies and silly halftime shows.

+ Another sobering article on our world's addiction to technology

Good Morning Journal

There's a new pretty website out there called the Good Morning Journal. As an early riser myself, I have always taken an interest in other people's morning rituals.

Mine aren't too out of the ordinary. Sometimes I go to the gym. Other times I sleep til 7 or so. My mornings always involve coffee, sometimes smoothies. Right now I've been on a huge grapefruit kick. I like to listen to music or a podcast when I'm getting ready. Then if it's not raining or too cold, I walk or ride my bike to work. This has to be one of the best ways to start the day. Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose. Just kidding. Kind of.

How do you spend yours?
