A Warm Thanksgiving
Hustling and bustling to get ready for a 6am flight tomorrow. We're spending Thanksgiving with Brett's family in sunny Phoenix. There's lots to do between now and then, so I'll be powering down the blog until next week...December!
Wishing everyone near and far a safe and happy Thanksgiving. I'm feeling especially thankful this year.

Sunday Chicken Chili
I've enjoyed making this recipe the past couple of Sundays. It's quite the trifecta -- easy, delicious, and keeps for days. Thanks for sharing, Lucie!
Ingredients:
+ 2 chicken breasts
+ 1 T cumin
+ 1 T chili powder
+ 1 c corn
+ 3 cans of black or white beans
+ 3 garlic cloves, minced
+ 1 onion, diced
+ 4 c chicken broth
+ 2-3 T butter
+ s&p to taste
1. Preheat oven to 450 and bake chicken for 40 minutes. Once cooked through, slice into small pieces.
2. In a large pot, melt the butter on medium heat. Add onions and garlic. Let simmer for a few minutes then add the cut up chicken.
3. Throw in the spices, corn, and beans. Stir.
4. Add chicken broth. Bring to a boil. Then turn the heat down and cover.
5. Let it rumble and tumble. Top with avocado, cheese, or sour cream. Enjoy!

Bookshelves can be so inspiring both from afar and up close. I'm always curious to know what other people read.
Weekend Trip to DC
We spent the weekend in DC getting lost in museums and visiting with family. I'm grateful to finally be driving distance from such wonderful people and places. A few favorites:

Song for Autumn
In the deep fall don't you imagine the leaves think how
comfortable it will be to touch the earth instead of the
nothingness of air and the endless freshets of wind?
comfortable it will be to touch the earth instead of the
nothingness of air and the endless freshets of wind?
And don't you think the trees themselves, especially those with mossy,
warm caves, begin to think of the birds that will come — six, a dozen — to sleep
warm caves, begin to think of the birds that will come — six, a dozen — to sleep
inside their bodies? And don't you hear the goldenrod whispering goodbye,
the everlasting being crowned with the first tuffets of snow?
the everlasting being crowned with the first tuffets of snow?
The pond vanishes, and the white field over which the fox runs
so quickly brings out its blue shadows.
And the wind pumps its bellows.
And at evening especially, the piled firewood shifts a little,
longing to be on its way.
longing to be on its way.

New Music Tuesdays
The new Arcade Fire album, Reflektor, came out last Tuesday and Afterlife instantly became my favorite track. I can't imagine that I'll ever get sick of it.

Away We Go
Two of my favorite things: Anthropologie and Jackson Hole. For the record, people don't dress like this in Wyoming.

A Quiet November Morning
I have a few hours to myself on this gorgeous November morning. At first, I thought about the groceries we needed, the workout I should do, and the farmers' market that beckoned me from a few blocks away. Instead, I'm choosing to sit, drink coffee from a proper mug, and enjoy this down time. What a gift!
I just caught up on a few handwritten notes and now hope to knock out some chapters of this new book. Couldn't resist a quick check-in on the ole blog though, especially since it's the beginning of the month. And a great one at that. Looking forward to leaf peeping, more hikes in the Blue Ridge, stews and soups, a trip to DC, and spending Thanksgiving in sunny Arizona.
