I surprised one of my JH besties for her 30th birthday in her most favorite place -- the Poconos. I've heard about PLP for years but had to experience it myself to understand how truly special it is. We spent the weekend on party boats, hiking on trails, catching up, and celebrating sweet Jane.

Newport Folk Festival

This year marks the 50th anniversary of Dylan's debut at Newport. NPR asks, who's the new Dylan? And for the record, this festival is on my bucket list. Someday!

Sangria Made Simple

We made sangria for a dinner party last week. It wasn't at all complicated and made for the perfect summer drink. 

Ingredients:
1 bottle of wine - red or white
2 c Ginger Ale
1 lemon
1 orange
1 peach or handful of berries

1. Chop and squeeze fruit juices in a mixing bowl or large pitcher.
2. Combine fruit and wine.
3. Let it sit overnight
4. Before serving, add the Ginger Ale.

We celebrated my dad's birthday the best way we knew how -- family, beers, and burgers. Oh, and there was carrot cake! Life's simple pleasures, yes? I have my dad to thank for teaching me how to appreciate such things.

The Crash Reel

We watched The Crash Reel last night which follows pro snowboarder Kevin Pearce before, during, and after his traumatic brain injury. The word I keep using to describe the film is heavy. I found it difficult to watch at times and was left feeling both uplifted and heartbroken. The director, Lucy Walker, doesn't hold back from really examining high-risk sports and the injuries associated with them. I'm clearly unsettled by it all because I've spent the morning reading articles and stories on TBIs. Message received!

Colorful Colorado

My brother's been spending the summer in Boulder, Colorado working for Newton Running. Clearly, he hasn't let any grass grow under his feet! He's constantly exploring whether it's on a bike or in a pair of sneakers. He has found the most magical places and documented them so well. We have most definitely been feeling "at ease" on this beach vacation. It was the perfect end to our cross country drive. We're heading to Virginia tomorrow and then to Charlottesville later in the week. I'm ready to get settled and start anew!
