Friday Film

I'm hoping to catch this documentary soon. After this disturbing and infuriating news, it's more important than ever to be informed!

Want the Change

Want the change. Be inspired by the flame
where everything shines as it disappears.
The artist, when sketching, loves nothing so much
as the curve of the body as it turns away.

What locks itself in sameness has congealed.
Is it safer to be gray and numb?
What turns hard becomes rigid
and is easily shattered.

Pour yourself out like a fountain.
Flow into the knowledge that what you are seeking
finishes often at the start, and, with ending, begins.

Every happiness is the child of a separation
it did not think it could survive. And Daphne, becoming a laurel,
dares you to become the wind.

Grace

Vacation is as good a time as any to start a new book. And that I did! I've actually almost finished it. Grace has been on my to-read list since it's release last November.

Desert Time

Our trip to Arizona was short but sweet! We got more than enough sun, food, and pampering. I feel renewed and ready for April.

New Music Tuesdays

My love for Kurt Vile continues...

National Geographic

National Geographic's Tumblr, Found, honors the magazine's 125th anniversary. A lot of these photos were never published or publicly seen until now. I'm grateful for their showcase, as they leave me feeling inspired and awestruck.

Friday Film

I saw this documentary the other night. It's set in Oregon which struck mighty close to home. I found it difficult to watch at times, but it was important to put faces/stories with these issues.

Rest and Relaxation

Moab, Utah

Ready, set, adult spring break! We're leaving for Arizona tonight. Brett's aunt and uncle have a place there and are always the most gracious of hosts. The weather is shaping up to be perfect and the company will be even better! Looking forward to a long weekend in the desert.

Bursting

We helped some friends move on Sunday. As you can see, their yard was ready to burst with flowers and veggies. What a joy to put roots down and make something your very own. Congrats you two!

Stumptown Coffee

I couldn't resist this mug. It brings together my love of buffalos and coffee. Perfection!

Daily Routines of Famous Writers

As I've mentioned before, I'm a fan of routine. Naturally, this piece sucked me right in! I found their preferences and idiosyncrasies to be so fascinating...from candles to prayer and drinks to a good, old fashioned legal pad. Hey, whatever works!

Living with Less

In the spirit of spring cleaning, this article is spot on. I really try to be mindful about living with less. I agree that relationships, experiences, and meaningful work are the staples of a happy life.

Fairy Meadows

Brett returned from his 12 day Canadian ski trip safe and sound. These pictures were some of my favorites! I'm hoping to make it to British Columbia one of these days.

5 Things That Made My Week

These sunglasses, because I actually needed them more often than not. Sun in Portland is serious stuff, people!

This green juice, because I made one every day after work. For those who want to recreate, it's apple, lemon, broccoli stems, cucumber, kale, and celery.

These flowers outside my door, because I've watched them grow from sticks to buds to blooms.

These books, because they've been on my list for a long time and I was able to borrow them from a friend.

The contents on this shelf, because they have gotten me through these quiet evenings.

What things made your week?

Pop of Yellow

In honor of March, I bought some mums at the grocery store. They are the simplest of flowers.

Vivian Maier

Vivian Maier captured beauty in urban America. Her photos just so happened to be discovered in 2007 at a thrift auction house in Chicago. I look forward to learning more about her story in the recently released documentary, Finding Vivian Maier.

Thanks for the inspiration, Wendes! I'm still brainstorming what I'd like to do for the next 30 days. I love the idea of small, sustainable changes.

March On

Hello, March -- the month that holds the key to unlocking spring! I'm excited for a new season and all the changes it will bring. I look forward to more productivity and routine, as well as an adult spring break in Arizona later in the month! For the record, the rain doesn't let up until June. We need an escape, even if only for a long weekend.

Here are a few short term goals:
+ more green juices
+ 1 gym class/week
+ 2-3 yoga classes/week
+ finish wedding thank you notes

Your turn!
